BOARD OF DIRECTORS


David Friedman
David Friedman is Academic Director and Assistant Clinical Professor of Executive Education at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. He is also Principal at Bridgewell Partners, a Chicago-based company that provides consulting and training aimed at helping companies improve important business relationships. He was a partner at McKinsey & Co. where he led projects for Fortune 500 companies. He holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard Collage and an MBA from Yale.



Kathryn Karn
Kathryn Karn was a consultant for 17 years prior to leaving the workforce to care for her three young children. As a principal at a leading economics consulting firm, she specialized in damages analysis for high stakes patent infringement and securities transactions litigation. Katie holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.



Valerie Kimball, M.D.
Dr. Valerie Kimball is a general pediatrician and partner physician with Traisman, Benuck, Merens and Kimball, LLC, a pediatric practice in Evanston, Illinois. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Community Physicians Association and is a member of the Pediatric Practice Research Group, both affiliated with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.



Katherine L. Knight, Ph.D.
Dr. Katherine L. Knight is Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She teaches immunology and microbiology to medical and graduate students and performs NIH-sponsored research in immunology. She has mentored numerous Ph.D. graduate students and has also served on multiple advisory groups for the NIH.



Susan Levinson
Susan Levinson is Executive VP of Trabert & Hoeffer, a leading independent fine jewelry salon in Chicago. She is involved in all aspects of the business from buying, selling, marketing, and day-to-day operations. Susan’s greatest role is Mother to three outstanding and accomplished young men. She was formerly an attorney with D’Ancona & Pflaum in the Estates and Trust Department.  She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude and from Northwestern University School of Law in 1985.



Kavita Kapadia Matsko, Ph.D.
Dr. Kavita Kapadia Matsko is Director of Teacher Preparation at the University of Chicago’s Urban Teacher Education Program and Managing Director of the Urban Education Institute. She was a Chicago public school teacher, literacy leader and mentor and held adjunct faculty positions at Northwestern and National Louis Universities.



Martha Heineman Pieper, Ph.D.
Dr. Martha Heineman Pieper is an author and psychotherapist in private practice in Chicago. She and her husband, William J. Pieper, M.D., developed the Smart Love approach and its underlying theory of psychology and philosophy of mind, Intrapsychic Humanism. They co-authored Smart Love: The Comprehensive Guide to Understanding Regulating and Enjoying your Child, Intrapsychic Humanism: An Introduction to a Comprehensive Psychology and Philosophy of Mind, Addicted to Unhappiness, and two compilations of parenting Q & A’s previously published in Chicago Parent. Dr. Pieper recently wrote and published her first children’s book, Mommy, Daddy, I Had a Bad Dream! that has won numerous awards. She also provides consultation to mental health professionals and agencies that work with children. Dr. Pieper received a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Radcliffe College.



Anne Rowley, M.D.
Dr. Anne Rowley is Professor of Pediatrics-Infectious Diseases and Microbiology-Immunology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a leading researcher and authority on the causes and treatment of Kawasaki’s, an inflammatory disease affecting children.



Richard H. Sanders
Richard H. Sanders is of counsel at
at Vedder, Price, Kaufman and Kammholz.
He served a broad range of health care providers as a partner of the firm for many years.

Emily B. Carroll, LCSW
Emily B. Carroll is a licensed clinical social worker who most recently served as Clinical Supervisor at Juvenile Protective Association and was the Director of the Emergency Housing Program of Northwestern Memorial Hospital for many years.


Mark L. Steinberg, Ph.D.
Dr. Mark L. Steinberg is a psychotherapist
in private practice in Chicago. He also
provides consultation and supervision to
other mental health professionals


Walter D. Miller, LCSW
Walter D. Miller is a psychotherapist
in private practice treating children and
adults. He also provides consultation
and supervision to other practitioners.
